31st March 2017 | IN DESIGN STUDENTS | BY SBID Share Tweet Pinterest LinkedIn The four winners of the Ukraine SBID Get me 2 the Top student competition were announced at the British ambassador’s residence in Kiev on March 17 2017. Open to local students and recent graduates, the competition was split into three categories including Public Space, Private Space and Product Design and saw a series of impressive submissions from students all over the country including Kiev, Odessa and Lviv. Participating universities included Lviv National University of Technology and National Aviation University amongst other high profile universities showing the highest level of ability and compliance with industry standards. The competition was judged in two stages, with Ukrainian experts selecting the finalists while the winners were chosen by the UK judges. The overall winner title was awarded to the candidate who could demonstrate evidence of informed reasoning behind decisions made, attention to detail and ability to follow the brief most closely. The accolade went to Liuba Kushnir, a student of the Kiev National University of Technology and Design. Luiba was awarded with a sponsored trip to the UK, with flights courtesy of British Airways and will go on to undertake a 3 month internship at Jestico + Whiles, one of the best London practices of architecture and design. Jestico + Whiles is an award-winning architecture and interior design practice with a global reputation for design quality and innovative solutions to challenging briefs. The practice has a global reputation for excellence in the design of prestigious hotel and leisure facilities including restaurants and bars, reinforced by multiple international design awards. The private space winning project was created by Natalia Drachenko, a graduate from the Kiev National University of Construction and Architecture. The winning public space project was by Julia Artyukh, a student of KNUCA and first place in the Product design category went to Stanislav Boychuk, graduate of the Lviv National Academy of Arts. All category winners will receive a yearlong mentorship or internship with leading design practices in Ukraine. All the winners received special prizes from SBID and Partners, including honorary SBID associate membership for one year, helping them connect with the industry and gain new skills and connections. The initiative of SBID was supported by representatives of the Ukrainian authorities, Lev Partskhaladze and Alexei Ryabchin, as well as First Secretary of the British Embassy in Ukraine, Krina Laveri.
