Improving the procurement of professional services

Large-build and interior fit-out contractors are represented at the SBID Construction Council. The councils members span building and fit-out firms, as well as experts whose skills represent the highest industry standards to the interior construction industry.

Support partners from Structural and Building Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Health & Safety and Fire Regulation are among the many specialist building and business services that aid the services of an interior design project. Collectively, these skills and professions share methods of issue, liaise and consult directly with government and receive legal advice and opinion that create a 360 degree supply chain resulting in positive change, exemplary outcomes and spectacular interior projects.

Council Aims

SBID foster a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork and pride for the benefit of our employees, partners and the public. It requires genuine commitment to improving the lives of those who use the spaces that the design industry create. It requires an understanding of local values and culture, safety, wellbeing in performance and skills at all stages of a project to effectively and safely deliver a concept. Interior design is the translating of processes through an array of trades and professions to create an enduring impact.

SBID operate across all interior design disciplines, from industry training and supply industries to drafting and accrediting course modules for university BA degrees, accrediting design courses and teaching establishments. SBID also  accredit products and manufacturers training CPDs.

The SBID Council understands the duty of care required to align its training methods, creativity and procurement structure to generate a qualified design plan through a series of overlapping trades, disciplines and professions to procure. The true success of a building project is the skilled and trained staff with quality management control at all stages of procurement. From design scheme, installation and final completion, each project is improved by industry shared collaboration.

1. Responsible Behaviour

We take our duty to act responsibly at all times very seriously through proactively managing the impact of our partners activities on the environment, the people and the communities in which design, fit-out and construction forges an impact on recreation, work and living environments. In particular, we place the conduct and ethics of those involved in or affected by our business behaviours as our core organisational value, aiming to eliminate error by setting and accrediting the content of training that converts into industry standards. Together, a designer’s plan implemented by contractors take a leading role in driving change across our industries. We seek ways to reduce the effect of operations on the environment through sustainable materials and product technology. We endorse and celebrate the highest achievements in safety conditions adopted through project management and the treatment of people throughout the entire supply chain. Jointly our communication further aims to eliminate risk, error and costs leading to exceptional best practice construction methods and installation which concludes in a successful client handover.

2. Sustainability

This partnership also sets a new benchmark for the industry in support of the governments Net Zero Carbon ambitions for 2050. SBID is the British interior design partner of COP26, championing innovation in the design of reduced energy products, sustainable materials and solutions throughout the home, workplace and in leisure. Adopting alternative design methods and processes in construction and transport design will help us all to reach that target.

3. Innovation

We include all our partners in the supply chain of the built environment, creating the safety and inspiration in the outcomes we produce for the wider benefit of the public. As a professional design organisation SBID is passionate about exploiting innovation as a positive force for change. We instil this mindset culturally in every element of our delivery. We invest in research and development both academically with our university partnerships in the UK, through to handover of client projects all around the world.

4. Inclusion

We are committed to providing a work environment that attracts, develops and retains the best people. Our diversity and inclusion practices and policies including our support for a variety of networking groups and commitment to diversity play a leading role in our strategy for the design industry’s progression.

It has resulted in an inclusive and more diverse workforce that produces exceptional outcomes for society and clients that in turn champions career growth. By creating an environment where each and every individual is valued for who they are, recognised for their contributions and given the chance to grow and learn, we extend huge business opportunities.
