Description:

The project offers an apartment residence in an upcoming modern district in London for a married couple who have just purchased this unit with the intention to refurbish to meet their personal taste. Recently, one of them has had a very serious accident, so accessibility in certain spaces must be considered.

Overall, the main colour scheme of the apartment is neutral using beige with pops of green and accented with wooden furniture to uphold a simple and modern minimal style. First, light neutral paint fills the walls of the property, featuring architectural wall panels in the living room to create a more beautiful appearance and premium design. Huge windows flood the apartment with natural light, instantly uplifting the space – especially when reflected and enhanced by the cream marble flooring throughout. The green-coloured sofa and other green design features (such as bedside tables and kitchen cabinet) echo the placement of plants within the design – as with the notions of biophilic design – plants make people shine through their connection with nature. Two large mirrors are used on the bedroom walls to visually enlarge the space with sunlight reflected from the windows.

Considering that the homeowner needs a wheelchair to assist with daily life, the flooring used is flat and smooth to avoid bumps when moving around. The kitchen is specially designed with the work surface, kitchen counters and kitchen sinks deliberately lowered to ensure normal use even in a wheelchair. Finally, in the bathroom, the bathtub is spacious and will be equipped with a seat for the owner to easily make use of the bath. The toilet facility is also hollowed out for the purpose of wheelchair use.
