Arper presents its first sustainable lounge chair in solid wood with Kata
Lightweight in form and environmental footprint, Kata is designed with circular sustainability at its core. Arper’s first solid wood lounge chair, Kata takes inspiration from artisan-made wood and woven straw chairs and reimagines the near universal typology using contemporary, sustainable solutions in an expression that’s both graphic and warm. Kata finds form in juxtaposition – an evocative gesture in the movement between material presence and minimal silhouette, softness and strength, tradition and technology.
The Kata lounge chair is a union of traditional craftsmanship and soft technology. An oak and black locust FSC certified wooden frame supports a tailor-made 3D knit textile. The knit cover is created from recycled polyester made from post-consumer plastic that is converted into durable and lightweight fibers – roughly 1 kilo of waste – or about 48 half PET bottles – is used to produce 1 kilo of yarn. The knit technology is also formed to fit the frame, avoiding leftover material waste found in traditional manufacturing, with unified seat and back structure available in lightweight stripe or graphic-patterned 3D knit with internal micro-padding – all suitable for outdoor use. Additional loose seat and back cushions finishes can be customized in both Arper’s complete fabric catalogue.
TSAR Carpets introduces latest hand-tufted rug collection, Tæpper
A global industry leader in luxury custom-made carpets and rugs, Melbourne-based TSAR Carpets is pleased to introduce the new Tæpper Collection, a series of hand-tufted rug designs made in collaboration with designer Michelle Macarounas of Infinite Design Studio. The collection will be sold exclusively at TSAR’s studios in Melbourne, Sydney, New York, London, and Shanghai with each luxurious rug hand-tufted from the finest grade of New Zealand wool and shiny Tencel fibre, offering incredible durability and softness.
Featuring abstract designs inspired by the art and design of mid-20th century modernism – in particular, the object-mobile artwork of Alexander Calder – the collection’s sculptural graphics are enhanced by colorful dimension, adding a design-forward focal point for any room. “The goal was to create stylish area rugs that felt more like pieces of art and infuse an eclectic sensibility to any interior space,” says Macarounas. “My aim was for each design to be simple, yet strong enough to breathe on its own or sit in harmony with other interior design elements.”
Lalique launches Signature Collection in collaboration with interior designer, Pierre-Yves Rochon
The Signature Collection combines Lalique’s extraodinary skills in the art of glassmarking with Pierre-Yves Rochon’s outstanding expertise in designing interior solutions for luxury hotels around the world. The collection embodies the brand’s timeless elegance as an enduring symbol of French luxury.
Pierre-Yves Rochon comments: “Crystal is a noble material that beautifully serves all forms of art: from architecture or sculpture to tableware or jewelry… As an Interior Designer, it is an inexhaustible source of inspiration and creativity. With this Signature collection of furniture, I wanted to write a new story in which metal sublimates the transparency, purity and brilliance of crystal. The Perles, Coutard, Vibration, Causeuses, Roses or Soudan pieces were born from the quest for the most beautiful aesthetic effect, the search for perfect proportions and the attention to every detail. Marked by the precision and the elegance of metal, the designs give crystal the freedom to blend in interior architecture and furniture design in a new manner. I am honoured to perpetuate René Lalique’s work, associating crystal and metal in my own turn.”
Graphenstone conclude certification for its embedded carbon footprint
The construction sector consumes 50% of all raw materials, produces 39% of all carbon emissions, causes 36% of all waste and 49% of total carbon emissions over the life of a building (source – WasteBuild). Architects, interior designers, manufacturers and contractors can all make significant contributions in protecting our fragile climate through choice of materials. For example in paints, one of the most polluting industries in the world, selecting and specifying newly developed ‘harm-free’ products using advanced technologies, as opposed to the same toxic options used over recent decades, can make a huge difference.
Graphenstone have now concluded the certification of its embedded carbon footprint. Its level is about one-fifth of the few other paints companies who have conducted the same research. The entire carbon footprint (complete raw material extraction to end of manufacture) presents the value 0.5kg / litre. BREEAM, LEED & WELL complaint, Graphenstone is certified for health and sustainability by the world’s most recognised product evaluation agencies (Cradle to Cradle Institute, Eurofins, Green Tag). They examine all aspects of a product’s sourcing, development, energy, water and social impact, as well as how cleanly it dies off at end of life.

James Latham and Hi-Macs® cast a positive light on mental illness at designjunction 2019
Two five metre-tall interactive sculptures, designed by multi-award winning British designer, Steuart Padwick will be erected in King’s Cross shortly for this year’s designjunction event (19-22 Sept) as part of London Design Festival.
The giant cuboid figures have been created in support of mental health anti-stigma initiative, Time To Change, and have been skilfully formed using Douglas Fir to convey warmth and humanity, using off-site construction technologies. However, it is the imposing, interactive ‘concrete’ blocks – representing their ‘emotional burdens’ – that truly bring these dramatic, public art spectacles to life. These cubes have been manufactured from HI-MACS® natural acrylic stone (in colour G555 Steel Concrete), supplied by main UK distributor, James Latham and fabricated by Preston based, We Are Limitless Limited (WALL).
For all visitors to the London Design Festival and designjunction, James Latham is holding a one-day HI-MACS® walk-in workshop on 19th September at their Design Showroom in the Business Design Centre, Islington, just one tube stop away from Kings Cross. Here, visitors can learn more about the product and witness inspirational demonstrations of thermoforming, sublimation and more.
Cosentino City London Celebrates LDF with ‘Carved in Stone’ Installation
Leading Spanish manufacturer of surfaces for architecture and design, Cosentino, is delighted to be celebrating London Design Festival with the ‘Carved in Stone’ installation’. Leading architects were invited to put forward their proposed designs in line with the theme: ‘Life on Mars‘, with five winning entries hand selected by a panel of judges, including members of the Cosentino and Cuellar families.
These entries will be brought to life by craftsmen from Cuellar Stone in Spain, who will carve these intricate sculptures out of blocks of Macael Marble, measuring 500 x 500 x 500mm. Marble has been chosen as the material as it signifies the very beginning of Cosentino. Historically, some of the greatest designers in history have used marble, from Agra’s Taj Mahal, London’s Marble Arch and Michelangelo’s ‘David’.
The five marble sculptures will be on show at the Cosentino City London showroom for visitors to admire throughout London Design Festival. The designers will be visiting the showroom during the week to offer visitors a glimpse of the inspirational stories behind their fantastic designs.

Craig & Rose celebrate the launch of 11 new shades with special colour installation, Colour Way
Craig & Rose marks its evolution from one of the UK’s oldest luxury paint manufacturers to paint protagonists by way of a special colour installation for the 2019 edition of the London Design Fair. To celebrate the launch of 11 new shades, the progressive Scottish brand will unveil a creative structure which nod’s discreetly to this year’s overarching theme of ‘Bauhaus’, whilst honouring the design movement’s modernist principles of ‘honesty’ and ‘simplicity’. The aim of the presentation is to ‘free’ architects and designers, empowering them with clear contemporary colour direction, all suitable for practical adoption. With two immersive areas, the installations take the visitor on a special journey to experience, explore, and develop their own personal relationships with a series of carefully curated combinations.

The result of this will be a highly distinctive and interactive space devised to challenge existing perceptions around colour. In addition, East London’s architectural practice Studio Shaw, best known for its original approach, has also been tasked with executing an exciting three dimensional structure amplifying the ideas within.

Arper presents its own interpretation of contemporary trends
Once again anticipating and seizing the evolution of everyday life and workspaces, Arper pursued a new direction embodied in their Soft(er) concept. Living in the digital era that demands our constant attention, we have never been more connected, on the move, going faster. That is why Arper felt the need to offset this overexposure to stimuli that leads us to a frenzied lifestyle, with the pursuit of people, places and objects that keep us balanced. In need of stability, softness, space, more air, and soft – or rather Soft(er) – objects. In our everyday interactions with the surrounding environment, Arper recognise that the quality of space has an impact on everything, from health to productivity, creativity to collaboration, and so on; as we look for places that can offer us comfort, authenticity, care, inspiration. This softer approach to living, learning, and working has framed their collections, introducing products which act as manifestations of essential human values – connection, sensitivity, comfort and ease.
Arper’s exhibition space at the Salone interprets the Soft(er) theme by using soft materials such as fabrics, transparent materials that allow light to illuminate spaces in a natural way, and streamlined, welcoming shapes. The project was designed by the MAIO creative team, under the artistic direction of Lievore Altherr and styling by Leandro Favaloro, featuring Arper’s new collections for 2019; Paravan Mood designed by Lievore Altherr and Saul design by Jean-Marie Massaud.

Set within the dark, atmospheric tunnels of Ventura Centrale, RAYTRACE comprised of a 25-metre long and 6-metre high triangular passage made using Dekton® Slim ultra-compact surfaces. A mesmerising pattern was created by 29 glass spheres and 87 LED lights, created by the UK’s leading art lighting specialists, TM Lighting, whilst two mirrors at both ends of the vault created the illusion of infinite space. RAYTRACE used Dekton® Slim, Cosentino’s latest surfacing launch with a thickness of only 4mm. Slim combines the durability and technology of Dekton® in a thinner and lighter format, making it one of the most innovative and lightweight surfaces on the market, perfect for wall cladding.

A showcase welcomes visitors revealing to them the mood of the collection: the most authentic Roberto Cavalli style is displayed in the furniture selection showing captivating and sensual shapes and textures, this season made softer and more delicate through the light colour palette, dominated by pink shades juxtaposed to the ivory white of the walls covered with silk in a giraffe pattern.
The path of discovery of the new collection continues with a wide living area where neutral tones meet the shimmering lights of marbles and metallic details, while two bedrooms unveil the duality of the brand – elegant and refined with ivory and dove gray shades, bolder and more audacious with the combination of pink and black. The new collections will be available exclusively in the UK through Kings of Chelsea later this year.
Oasis presents it’s Academy Collection, inspired by the Canneté style sculpture and decoration
Oasis demonstrated its refined interior design vision for living, dining and exclusive bathroom areas at the Salone, promoting its coordinated global image that centres around the use of Canneté in furniture pieces and works of art, all exquisitely and carefully crafted using expert combinations of materials and finishes. The term “Canneté” refers to a particular decorative technique that is characterised by a series of narrow repetitive grooves, created by means of different production processes and the use of specifically chosen material combinations.
The Oasis booth let visitors immerse themselves into the mood and atmospheric aesthetic of the Oasis world and its different settings: from entrance and hallway, to dining room, living room, and luxury bathroom – showcasing the addition of the Academy Collection to the Oasis Home Collection in all its glory. The luxurious designs and decorations reflected across the Collection are inspired by the Art Deco period, crafting each design as an emblem of timeless style. Materials used are among the most precious and superior quality, with Italian manufacturing sculpting the final, valued and sophisticated touches. With ribbed detailing and decorative, diamond-like lacquering, the collection creates an exquisite blend of elements and includes mirrors, glasses, surfaces and marbles to furnish the most exclusive furniture; creating comfortable spaces to contemplate, relax, and pamper. Perfect for the most prestigious and elegant of locations, from luxury residences to character hotels.

USM interior collections respond to the merging of home and work lifestyles
Where is the boundary between home and work today? Over the past year USM and UNStudio have been looking for it. From building absurd domestic rooms for the PlayGround at Salone del Mobile in Milan to building scenarios at the WorkHouse in Berlin, they’ve identified the drivers which are changing the way people work and live today, in order to paint a clearer picture of the future. Surprisingly, few people want to keep home and work separate. Work is more fun when we choose where to carry it out – it gives us freedom and self-determination. As such a third space is emerging between home and work – co-workspaces, cafes, hotel lobbies and libraries – where we work collectively alongside people we don’t know.
While diverse in design, what these third spaces share is community. Being together with others is just as important as getting the job done. The furnishings relax us and the ability to move between a variety of zones keeps us motivated and engaged. In many ways these feel more like spaces of leisure; undetermined and open to interpretation. More like a public square than an office or a living room.

2019 is well under way as we enter into February, so make sure you check out the latest products, collections or innovations on the market from the past month. From new textured wall coverings and distinctive ombre painted radiators, to bespoke boiling water taps and contemporary but functional furniture designs.
Bisque, the London-based pioneer of luxurious radiators for stylish interiors, has introduced its latest new finish; a distinctive, ‘dip-dyed’ ombre style. As a brand already widely recognised for offering the widest selection of colours and finishes around, this latest new style only further strengthens Bisque’s colour portfolio. The new ombre finish invites Bisque customers to choose between 4-6 shades. These are carefully applied from light to dark to each Classic during a special application process. This new finish also takes advantage of Bisque’s colour-matching service, where it can cater to popular paint brands such as Farrow & Ball and Little Greene.
Available in both horizontal and vertical models, the Classic is by far Bisque’s most versatile design. Fondly referred to as the old school-style radiator, the Classic has an enduring appeal and a fantastic heat output, and suits a wide range of interiors, from cosy cottage to contemporary townhouse. In addition to thirty-eight stock sizes, it can even be made-to-order when only a particular size will do.
Arper Collections furnish the new library, Oodi, recently inaugurated in the heart of Helsinki and designed by the Finnish firm ALA Architects. Among the bookshelves, the trees and the break rooms, Arper collections interact with the surrounding architecture and blend in seamlessly with the different areas. This ever-changing space develops underneath the undulated ceiling on an equally irregular wooden surface, lit by skylights and the surrounding glass walls. Positioned along the whole library area, the Saari and Catifa 80 sofa and armchair collections create cosy urban living rooms where people can sit down and read. The Catifa Sensit seats, arranged alongside the glass walls, invite people to unwind and enjoy the views, while young readers can take a seat on the colourful Pix ottomans in the children’s area.
Heikki Ruoho, Designer at ALA Architects describes their choice of Arper collections as follows: “These functional products can bear the intense use they are meant for; they are extremely versatile for the comfort of guests of all ages with varied needs. Flexible products that cater to the wishes that rapidly change over the day and depending on the areas; they are light and jolly to express the playful side of this project”.
Newmor introduced three new designs to their collection. Woven, terrazzo and textured backgrounds with on-trend prints and smart tailored embosses in contemporary colourways. All are available in commercial quality wide-width fabric backed vinyl, suitable for high traffic areas.
Seminato is Newmor’s take on the terrazzo look. Twelve matt backgrounds and one shimmering copper are embellished with a pared-back flecked metallic print, enhancing the quartz effect. A soft-hued mineral palette is both on-trend and classic. The result is a clean, elegant surface with enduring appeal.
In the shade of the familiar foliage in lush exotic gardens that filter the sun, the Yves Delorme 2019 Summer Collection offers a rich palette of organic colours, evoking the summer’s atmospheres. From seasonal heat to cooler temperatures, the designs transport us from familiar places to faraway lands, from leaves to flowers, between dreams and reality. The designs highlight the colour green in all its variants… mint, lime, sage, emerald. Associated with white, these designs enhance the coolness of long summer nights, and married with a fruity peach colour, they integrate the most fashion-forward interiors of the season.
