Fittings manufacturer Dornbracht is adding new flush plates, which are compatible with selected Geberit cisterns, to its comprehensive range of accessories. When developing its products, the Iserlohn-based company has always valued holistically coordinated designs. Therefore the new flush plates harmonise with the existing series of fittings in terms of form, material, and finish.

The flush plates will be available in all Dornbracht finishes from July. As well as the classic Chrome variant, there is also a choice between Brushed Dark Platinum, Matte Black, or Durabrass (23kt Gold) finishes, for example.

The 169 x 246mm cover plates are 12mm deep, and available with round or square push-buttons. These match the form and size of the fitting rosettes on the washstand, the bath, and in the shower, to create a harmonious picture throughout the bathroom.

While trends in bathroom design may not change as rapidly as fashion, bathroom manufacturers are still tasked with staying ahead of the curve. With this in mind, Roca presents its take on the freshest inspirations, colours, and looks for bathrooms. This is partly in response to the trends set at this year’s Salone del Mobile in Milan. Moreover, it serves as a summary of how Roca plans to incorporate these ideas in the upcoming year and beyond, especially within its new Tura collection.

Natural materials and slatted shelves reminiscent of window shutters
showing how the Tura collection was inspired by the Mediterranean

Mediterranean-Inspired Design

The essence of the Mediterranean is making waves in bathroom design, infusing a fresh, timeless elegance into these formerly purely utilitarian spaces. This trend captures the region’s vibrant culture, rich history and stunning natural beauty, transforming everyday areas into luxurious sanctuaries of relaxation and style. This transformation is achieved, in part, through the use of natural materials that not only provide durability but also add warmth and texture, creating a welcoming environment. Mediterranean-inspired colours also play a crucial role, with shades of blue, white and terracotta reminiscent of the sparkling Mediterranean sea and its sun kissed landscapes.

Mediterranean-inspired bathrooms often feature large windows, skylights and lush house plants. This design approach blurs the line between indoors and outdoors, enhancing the sense of tranquillity and openness. This ambiance directly influenced the design of the Tura collection, which draws inspiration from how Mediterranean light filters through the shutters that shade Spanish windows. As an homage to this, wooden slatted shelves were included in the Tura furniture.

Warm Terracotta

Renowned for its warm, earthy tones, terracotta is a prominent trend in modern bathroom design, offering a perfect blend of aesthetic appeal, practicality and comfort. One of the greatest strengths of terracotta is its versatility. It pairs beautifully with a wide range of colours and materials, including whites, greys, greens and natural woods, allowing homeowners to create a harmonious and cohesive look. Its warmth also helps to create an inviting and relaxing retreat – and with this in mind, Roca introduced Light Terracotta as a signature colour for the Tura bathroom furniture.

Enjoy a soak in the softly curved shaped of the Tura freestanding bath

Soft Lines and Curves

This year’s bathroom design trends are embracing soft lines and rounded shapes, marking a shift towards more organic, fluid aesthetics that promote relaxation anc harmony. Elements such as oval mirrors and circular basins are integral to this trend, as they reduce the harshness often associated with modern, angular designs. The freestanding bath in the Tura collection is a good example, as its softly curved shape creates a generous and comfortable interior.

Incorporating curves can also create the illusion of more space. Unlike sharp angles that result in visual barriers, curved lines guide the eye smoothly around the room, enhancing the perception of space, which is particularly beneficial in smaller bathrooms. Furthermore, the biophilic design trend, which seeks to connect interior spaces with the natural environment, also drives the popularity of curves. Nature rarely features straight lines, and by incorporating organic shapes, designers create spaces that feel more natural and inviting.

Neutral and natural shades in the Tura collection include bathroom furniture in Light Noble Grey and grey felt storage boxes with cork lids

Tranquil Neutral Shades

In a world where stress is omnipresent, neutral colours help create a spa-like, tranquil atmosphere in the bathroom. Shades such as soft whites, warm greys and gentle beiges promote relaxation and a sense of well-being. In addition to Light Terracotta, the Tura furniture is available in calming shades of Off-White and Light Noble Grey.

Neutral colours also provide a versatile backdrop in the bathroom, enabling homeowners to update accessories and fixtures without affecting the overall colour scheme. This adaptability is especially appealing to those who frequently refresh their decor. The Tura collection accessories exemplify this trend, as their neutral colours derive from their natural composition – recycled felt storage boxes and recycled cork lids, which also function as basin shelves.

Roca’s Tura collection is available now and comprises a Stonex® freestanding bath; ceramic basins, WCs and bidets, available in Gloss White, Supraglaze® White and Matt White finishes; and furniture in Off-White, Light Noble Grey and Light Terracotta.

LAUFEN consistently stays abreast of the leading bathroom trends through collaborations with world-renowned designers. This was evident at the Milan Fair in April, where LAUFEN showcased its trend-led approach in both new product introductions and their presentation. Here’s a summary of five bathroom trends that are likely to continue through 2024 and beyond.

As seen on the LAUFEN stand at Salone del Mobile, ILBAGNOALESSI vanity in Terracotta.
Curves seen on the LUA bathtub.

Trend One: Terracotta and Other Earthy Shades

Terracotta, a material celebrated for its earthy warmth and timeless appeal, has emerged as a key influencer in shaping the landscape of modern interior design trends. The charm of terracotta is not confined to the physical spaces it occupies. Its influence pervades deeper, extending to various aspects of interior design including furniture.

The richness of terracotta as a colour is particularly sought after in the bathroom because it adds warmth. Whether it’s a subtle hint of terracotta in a piece of furniture or a bold statement wall, this versatile material elevates the aesthetic appeal of the space, making it truly stand out.

LAUFEN explored other earthy shades at its Colour Archaeology exhibition in the centre of Milan.

Trend Two: Understated and Elegant Neutrals

Neutral colours, celebrated for their understated elegance and versatility, play an indispensable role in the world of interior design, particularly when curating a monochromatic scheme. These colours range from the quiet whispers of soft greys to the gentle embrace of warm taupe. Each of these hues, in their own way, contribute to crafting a serene and calming backdrop, which is particularly welcome in a bathroom setting. Variations in neutral tones, however minor, can dramatically alter the ambiance of the room, adding depth and interest. Thus, the use of neutral colours is not just about simplicity, but about creating a balanced and harmonious space that can effortlessly adapt to changes in style or mood.

Trend Three: The Enduring Appeal of Chrome Brassware

In the ever-evolving world of interior design, trends come and go. However, there are a few staples that have stood the test of time due to their timeless elegance and functionality. One such staple in bathroom decor is chrome brassware, which has remained popular for its sleek, minimalist aesthetic and ability to complement any bathroom style.

Timeless and versatile chrome not only blends seamlessly with any colour palette, but also pairs beautifully with a variety of other materials, such as glass, marble and wood. This means that it can easily fit into any bathroom decor, whether you’re aiming for a luxurious spa-like ambiance with marble countertops and glass shower doors, or a cosy, rustic vibe with wooden cabinets and natural stone tiles.

Chrome brassware from the MEDA collection complements all basins.

Trend Four: Soft and Organic Curves

Curves in bathroom design add a soft, organic touch to what is traditionally a space filled with hard, angular lines. They offer a refreshing visual contrast, introducing a more relaxed and natural feel and can also invoke a sense of comfort and luxury, reminiscent of high-end spa retreats. Moreover, curves can make a bathroom appear bigger, as they easily guide the eye through the space.

There are many ways to incorporate curves into a bathroom design. Rounded mirrors are a popular choice, adding a touch of elegance and softening the overall aesthetic. Curved bathtubs and basins can also make a bold statement, serving as a focal point in the room. Even subtle additions, like using rounded tiles or installing curved brassware, can go a long way in transforming the bathroom into a more calming and inviting space.

Trend Five: Greenery in the Bathroom

One of the primary benefits of having plants in your bathroom is the improvement of air quality. Plants naturally absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, which can help to freshen up the air in your bathroom. Additionally, certain plants are known to remove harmful toxins from the air. The humidity from your shower also helps plants like ferns and ivies thrive, making your bathroom an ideal place for them.

Plants have a calming effect on our minds, reducing stress and helping us to relax. This makes them perfect for the bathroom, a place where many of us begin and end our day. The addition of greenery can transform your bathroom into a peaceful oasis, providing a tranquil space for you to unwind at the end of a busy day. It’s small wonder that in our busy and stressful lives, indoor plants have become more popular than ever!

House of Rohl is delighted to once again be part of the interiors event of the Summer, WOW!house at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour from 4th June – 4th July. For its third installation, House of Rohl has collaborated with renowned architecture and interior design practice, Michaelis Boyd, to create a primary bathroom suite that offers a space for tranquillity, relaxation and luxury escapism.

The suite features the statement Taizu circular bath from Victoria + Albert, made for the first time in a subtle Matt finish, and presented with an on-trend Olive Green exterior. This is matched with Perrin & Rowe Georgian brassware in a beautiful Satin Brass finish from the House of Rohl portfolio. The design project was led by Christina Gregoriou, a Partner at Michaelis Boyd who saw the design as “An opportunity to reframe our traditional understanding of the bathroom, elevating it from a place for private time to a luxurious experience.”

Taking place from the 4th June – 4th July, WOW!house is built within the Design Avenue and is a one-of-a-kind showhouse stretching 500 sqm2 with 19 full-size rooms and outdoor spaces to be explored. Nigel Palmer, Head of Communications Marketing for House of Rohl said, “Now in its third year, WOW!house has become one of the pre-eminent interiors events in Europe. As one of the event’s initial sponsors, House of Rohl is delighted to be involved once again. Christina and her team at Michaelis Boyd have conceived a spectacular bathroom, full of flair and imagination, wholly original and meticulously planned. It is the perfect showcase for our Perrin & Rowe and Victoria + Albert brands, and has many clever ideas for visitors to take away.”

On specifying Victoria + Albert’s Taizu bath Christina said, “The Taizu bath was the perfect ‘protagonist’ in both style and scale. Once its location was decided the remaining design and layout unfolded from there”. Surrounding the bath within an uplit dome is an ethereal woodland mural by French artist Claire Basler. Claire was commissioned for her outstanding attention to detail and an ability to encapsulate serenity, with a sense of movement within her work.

The brassware is from Perrin & Rowe’s Georgian collection in Satin Brass. Christina comments, “We love the craftsmanship of Perrin & Rowe, from the hand-poured casting to the perfectionism of the final polishing. The Georgian collection gives the bathroom a root in tradition.”

The charming feature vanity unit was designed and built by Goldfinger. Finished with a Rainforest Green marble from Diespeker, it includes two Laceno 56 basins, new this year from Victoria + Albert. They are paired with Perrin & Rowe Georgian Wall Mounted Basin Mixer taps, once again in Satin Brass. The vanity unit is wrapped in a ruffled skirt made of ‘Old Hollywood, Flame’, a linen-blend material by de Le Cuona.

The bathroom was strategically designed to include transitional areas of separation with areas to bathe, wash and rest. To achieve this, the team created a chequerboard effect by using Encaustic and Zellige tiles from the Mosaic Factory in three sizes to create a visual and whimsical transition for the occupier to navigate the space. Within the more intimate areas of the bathroom, the Koyohen Border tiles in ‘Vintage Green’ from Raven were chosen for their sleek design. The flecks of amber compliment the warm tones of the timber and marble. The team strategically positioned the tiles vertically to extenuate the curvature of the shower area, powder room and drying area. To complement the natural colour palette, the woodwork including the skirting boards and door architraves are painted in ‘Invisible Green’ by Little Greene.

Offering a place to reflect and relax, a bespoke daybed, designed and built by Goldfinger, is upholstered by Lawson Wood in a linen fabric named ‘Douce Nightscape’ from LF Trading. Above, a show-stopping Diamond Olive Chandelier (Amber) from COX London is positioned above. Michaelis Boyd’s design ethos of ‘luxurious design should tread lightly on the planet’ influenced Christina’s decision to render the bathroom’s walls and dome with Clayworks; a clay plaster made of unique blends of unfired clays mixed with minerals and pigments to provide healthy, breathable internal finishes.

Diversity and sustainability are core themes to this year’s WOW!house. Perrin & Rowe’s two UK sites in Wolverhampton and Rainham in East London reflect their diverse communities, helped by local apprenticeships. Victoria + Albert’s South African factory provides skilled manufacturing jobs in an area where there are few. Like many responsible organisations, House of Rohl has a long-term programme to enhance the sustainability of its processes, but there has always been a focus on making products that last, avoiding the need for wasteful replacement. Perrin & Rowe, for example, stock spares for almost every tap they have ever made. Their Customer Services team in Rainham take pride in helping owners make old taps work like new.

At the inaugural WOW!house, the House of Rohl bathroom was conceived by 2LG Studio, who created a ‘Cave of Wonders’ that provided an alternate reality to escape to in a Covid-affected year. In 2023, Studio Mico deftly blended influences from many cultures, choosing natural materials and textures to create a bathroom that felt entirely original, yet resonated with every visitor to the space. This year, the ‘Maximalist Whimsy’ of Michaelis Boyd’s delightful design offers their own unique take on a luxury bathroom. Christina comments, “The bathroom has an intimate, tranquil feel and sanctuary aesthetic, making it a room where you feel at peace and want to spend time.”

In collaboration with C.P. Hart’s professionally qualified Design team, the owners of Sundridge Park, a residential property in Kent, created three distinct bathrooms: a primary suite, a playful cloakroom, and a marble-adorned shower room.

C.P. Hart
C.P. Hart

The Primary Suite

“The vision for Sundridge Park’s primary suite revolved around their brief of a generous freestanding bath and a spacious walk-in shower,” the Design team recalls. “Favouring contemporary interiors with classical elements, they opted for the striking Amazzonite tiles from our Cosmopolitan collection, juxtaposed with a traditional cast iron bath and accompanying brassware.”

C.P. Hart
C.P. Hart

The owners specified C.P. Hart’s exclusive Camden bath, painted in a muted sage to accentuate the green highlights from the Amazzonite tiles. The suite’s brassware – a combination of our classical Original and Waterloo ranges – is finished in ‘Unlacquered Brass’, a characterful finish that will develop a unique patina over time.

C.P. Hart
C.P. Hart

For the vanity unit, IdeaGroup’s Smyle was a natural choice, specified for its meticulously fluted wooden fronts and impressive storage capacity. Twin Cielo Era washbowls, finished in ‘Lino’, were chosen for their unassuming simplicity, allowing the textures of the brass taps, vanity fronts, and stacked tile backdrop to sing.

C.P. Hart

The Shower Room

“The shower room was conceived with meticulous attention to detail,” shares the Design team. “We extended the gold theme into this space, incorporating brassware selections from our Original and Waterloo ranges. To maintain a cohesive aesthetic, we colour-matched the brassware’s finish with the basin stand, towel radiator, and Matki Eauzone shower screens, strategically installed in the corner to optimise space.”

C.P. Hart
C.P. Hart

To add to the bathroom’s grandeur, the owners chose our Cosmopolitan Arabescato Oro marble-effect tiles. Crafted from rectified porcelain, these tiles not only exude the luxurious appearance of natural stone but also provide enhanced durability in a wet environment.

The Cloakroom

In contrast to the shower room, the cloakroom’s design draws on contemporary influences centred around the fluted concrete basin by British makers Kast. “The Kast Elm Mini basin is a true masterpiece. Specified in ‘Sage’ and mounted against soft blue stacked tiling, it perfectly sets the tone for the cloakroom.”

C.P. Hart

“We completed the basin with bespoke Samuel Heath unlacquered brass taps. Underfoot, wooden flooring owes the space its warmth whilst proving a functional choice for its hardwearing properties in a high traffic area.”

Fittings manufacturer Dornbracht is enhancing its spa applications by adding Aquahalo, a sculptural experience shower modelled on a classic crystal chandelier. The product from designer Michael Neumayr offers unique experiences in line with the “Follow Your Bliss” guiding principle: Three effective flow modes, including a spot for light and water integrated into the ceiling, provide meditative and invigorating moments of happiness in everyday life.

Dornbracht Aquahalo

Design Artwork for the Bathroom

Aquahalo is a water sculpture with character, in a ring-shaped design that becomes the central element in every bathroom. Attached at four points, it circles a central spot for light and water embedded in the ceiling. Designer Michael Neumayr based his concept on the Gustavian style, a Swedish trend inspired by antiquity and French neoclassicism at the time of King Ludwig XVI. “My original inspiration was a chandelier that hung in my parent’s dining room”, explains Neumayr. He continues: “The glint of the lead crystal and the way in which it reflected the light always reminded me of sparkling water as a child. In this respect, Aquahalo is a contemporary, minimalist interpretation of a Gustavian candlestick.”

Invigorating Moments of Wellbeing in Everyday Life

The product is available in five finishes, polished and brushed versions of Chrome and Champagne (22kt Gold), as well as Matte Black. Three different flow modes, together with an integrated light, ensure unique water experiences: With Aqua Circle Rain, the water falls from the ring like a soft cone, creating a relaxing and meditative effect. Tempest Rain is like an invigorating shower of rain, coming from every direction. The gentle drops fall seemingly without pressure and bring clarity as well as energy. Diamond Rain, on the other hand, combines water and light into a crystal-clear stream that is both comforting and aesthetically pleasing. All three flow modes create moments of recovery for the body and soul, allowing a welcome time-out from hectic, everyday events.

“Follow Your Bliss” as a Message and a Promise

The “Follow Your Bliss” guiding concept is both a message and a promise. Users are invited to go along with their own wishes and needs – and discover which of the environmental elements are most suited to them. Materials and textures, fragrances, sounds, colours, and light play a crucial role here, but most importantly is the presentation of the water. Aquahalo is designed for wellbeing – and contributes to an appreciably better quality of life.

Perfect for all those who want to bring their own ideas to life: IMO – short for “In My Opinion” – should be seen as an invitation to create an expressive and personal design for the home bathroom. The series from Dornbracht fits effortlessly into many different styles, and will be available as a refined design from April 2024. With the aid of artificial intelligence, a video piece has been created to emphasise the universal character of IMO.

A morphing video, produced with the aid of artificial intelligence, shows the universal character of IMO in a playful way. The depicted interior designs merge, to produce innumerable architectures.

Hybrid forms, fluid transitions

The moving images translate the versatility of IMO in an eye-catching and playful way: Providing the starting point were four, newly-created bathroom architectures showing the fittings series in completely different settings – including a pink guest bathroom, an urban apartment bathroom, a family bathroom in fresh, pastel yellow, and the premium version in soft sage green. The shapes morph into one another, allowing the bathrooms to transition smoothly between each other. The forms, colours, and structures of the interior designs merge continually, and are seen caught in dynamic motion. Dornbracht uses this to provide valuable impetus for designing home bathrooms.

The soft sage green gives colour to the “premium bathroom”, and is combined with light shades of wood and classic white elements to represent functional elegance.

Subtle refinement: IMO now more delicate

The reason for the artistic project is the thorough review of the IMO series. Sieger Design, a partner of the Iserlohn-based manufacturer for many years, gently changed the design of the fitting. “IMO is a fitting that works in many contexts and in many furnishing styles,” says owner Michael Sieger. “Now, after more than 13 years, we have given it a refined, lighter, and therefore contemporary appearance. It is more slender, making it seem more delicate and even more precise. But in making the refinements, we have retained the proportions and traits that distinguish IMO: These include, for instance, the striking shape of the spout, and the combination of two basic geometric forms, the circle and the rectangle,” he continues.

Four new bathroom architectures are the starting point for the moving images. Here: the small guest bathroom, the “Powder Room”. IMO in Matte Black creates a particularly expressive contrast against the pastel-pink background.

Lower water consumption and numerous new product types

The water consumption of the basin fittings was also optimised as part of the refinement. The reduced flow rate achieved a saving of approximately 35%, with the spray pattern barely changed.

In the “apartment bathroom”, balanced browns are combined with wood provide naturalness and homeliness. The bathroom architecture is designed for urban living environments, conveying a visual sense of openness and spaciousness, even in a small area.

Lastly, Dornbracht added numerous new product types and finishes to the series, so that IMO can adapt even better to individual ideas and requirements: Just one of the many innovations is the two-hole mixer, where the handle can be positioned anywhere on the washstand. With Matte Black, Dark Chrome and Brushed Dark Platinum, there is also a far wider choice of dark finishes available.

For the refinement, Dornbracht’s partner, Sieger Design, subtly changed the striking, hybrid design form of the IMO series.
