Luxury bath and kitchen brand GRAFF and prestigious American industrial designer Stephen Burks present Faucet Fantasy, an artistic installation drawing attention to the importance of water conservation. Burks, known for using artisan and handcrafted influences in his designs, will showcase nine GRAFF faucets in luxurious finishes, reimagined in his signature mix of bright colours with natural and manmade materials.

“Inspired by the graphic flow of water, Faucet Fantasy showcases nine luxurious faucets in a colorful array of handcrafted finishes, textures, and materials,” Burks said. The eye-catching installation generated considerable buzz among the attendees at the unveiling event.

Faucet Fantasy represents GRAFF’s Art of Bath sustainability program. GRAFF is an actively green brand, from using lead-free materials in its products to adhering to zero waste in its lean manufacturing system. The brand is inherently dedicated to water conservation, understanding our most valuable resource’s role in a healthy ecosystem. In 2012, GRAFF raised the bar on eco-standards by automatically including water-saving systems with all bathroom-sink and kitchen faucets, and showerheads. Partnering with sustainable projects worldwide, GRAFF strives to make luxury green.

Founder and President of GRAFF, Mr. Ziggy Kulig, commented: “For GRAFF, quality, design and sustainability, go hand in hand. We look to align with creatives whose own work embodies this same philosophy. We are pleased to partner with Stephen Burks for creating an exclusive sculpture installation. We hope his creation will inspire viewers to do their part in supporting water conservation initiatives.”

Burks’ installation also dovetails seamlessly with GRAFF’s rich heritage of artisanship and craftsmanship in production. “For Faucet Fantasy, we were looking at the idea of bringing the hand to industry and presenting a range of products that give the customer a sense of what’s possible,” said Burks. Together with his studio Stephen Burks Man Made, Burks has been commissioned by many of the world’s leading design-driven brands to develop collections that engage hand production as a strategy for innovation.

As a product development consultant, Burks has worked in close collaboration with artisans and craftspeople around the globe. His work has been exhibited internationally and he has been the recipient of several awards, including being the only African American to win the Smithsonian Cooper Hewitt National Design Award in Product Design. In 2019, he became the first Harvard Loeb Fellow in the discipline of product design and was recently an adjunct assistant professor of architecture at Columbia University’s GSAPP.

Following its unveiling at RNDD, the Faucet Fantasy installation will be on display at Chicago’s Studio 41 home design showroom from September 10th to September 30th and then at the GRAFF Design center at the Mart for Design Chicago.

What are the origins of your brand?

Innovative strength, precision down to the smallest detail, personality and the courage to break new ground – these have been Dornbracht’s hallmarks since 1950. At that time, Aloys F. Dornbracht founded a fittings factory in Iserlohn, Germany, and caused a sensation with the invention of a pull-out spout – a genuine world first. In 1969, Dornbracht then presented its first luxury fitting; the Edition 2000.

Today, we are active in more than 125 countries and are famous worldwide for our design and architectural expertise. Our claim “Leading Designs for Architecture” underlines our leadership aspirations. Leading in the sense of “acting responsibly” means, above all, creating sustainably lasting value and developing products that will endure.

How do you work with interior designers?

Together with our partner Sieger Design, we continuously sound out trends and tendencies in architecture and interior design. Collaboration with interior designers is therefore the core of our work, because only in direct exchange do we understand the needs of the market. It is always a pleasure for us to inspire them with our bathroom architectures. At the same time, the exchange of experiences also enriches our work immensely.

With Dornbracht Pro Services, we provide the support expected from a premium partner – from personal advice and planning support to the provision of all necessary product and planning data to customized spare parts offers on a project basis.

What value does your sector add to the interior design industry?

As a place of well-being, the bathroom plays a central role in every house and flat. The effect of water – whether at the washstand or in the shower – makes a significant contribution to our ability to relax and unwind from everyday life there.

In the kitchen – the place where people come together – the fitting has a more functional role. But it is decisive in whether we find the cooking experience enriching.

How do your services/offering enhance an interior designer’s projects?

Dornbracht manufactures high-quality designer fittings and accessories for the bathroom, spa and kitchen. Proportion, precision, progressiveness, performance and personality – these are the five design principles that distinguish each of our products. Combined with uncompromising quality, they ensure the longevity and stylistic confidence of the fittings – for many years to come. Furthermore, our curated range of finishes offers numerous design options.

What are the latest trends you’ve noticed in your client’s requests?

The individualisation trend reflects the central principle of the current age: Self-determination and self-realisation, uniqueness and personal freedom of choice are becoming the driving force more than ever. This can also be transferred to the interior sector. Whether with a high-quality mix of materials or coloured elements – our customers expect the greatest possible choice to design their bathroom and kitchen according to their own ideas. We meet this demand with a wide range of products and our x-tra service, which realises special designs.

What are the origins of your brand?

Sylan started when we saw a strong desire for bespoke and luxury washrooms along with excellent customer care. With over 30 years’ experience in the washroom industry, Sylan washrooms creates bespoke crafted, beautifully engineered products bringing a true element of luxury to any commercial washroom. As a business we aim to be leaders rather than being a follower of market trends.

How do you work with interior designers?

We are a specification lead brand working with Architects and Interior designers providing washrooms to commercial projects such as offices and hotels. We work alongside SBID to keep a constant dialog with Interior designers. We aim to gather great understanding of their needs and requirements to make the specification process as smooth as possible.

What value does your sector add to the interior design industry?

To fulfil their design aspirations where form & function are critical elements within a project. Our dedication and understanding of the key markets is paramount to our success and drive. Our continuous desire to create innovative products created through extensive research and market knowledge, make us a brand leader within the washroom market.

How do your services/offering enhance an interior designer’s projects?

Our project managers provide guidance when it’s come to writing your specification and will take the pressure off by providing you with a completed specification with any supporting documents you may require including mood boards, brochures and samples. They can offer their advice and expertise through specification appointments whether it be on site or remotely, making the whole process as easy as possible.

What are the latest trends you’ve noticed in your client’s requests?

As we work with office, hotel and commercial projects our main trend is simplistic washrooms with a luxurious feel. The need for full height cubicles and superloos is increasing with the demand for unisex and privacy washrooms. We have seen an increase in black and metal fittings e.g. copper are being specified in washrooms, we have worked closely with our new product development team to create new fittings which meet this demand. Finishing touches such as Solid Surface vanities are becoming increasingly popular and we are working hard on including more bespoke vanity profiles for a more inclusive offering. Throughout this process we make sure we do not compromise our position on sustainability and environmental impact.

Entering the rooms of the Landaburu Borda country house, the NATURFLOOR-W wooden floor (an AC6 natural wood floor especially designed for rooms with heavy, frequent traffic and suitable for spaces in frequent contact with water) takes us to their bathrooms, in which the Country Oak wood finish takes continuity over walls, floors, furniture, and even inside the shower cabins.

With a 14 mm thick and a bevelled edge, NATURFLOOR-W is installed as glued floor, with different board widths (188 and 290 mm). The boards rest on pieces of sound-proofing blankets laid out in parallel. Between them, elastic adhesive lines were applied to secure said boards to the ground. They are joined together by a tongue-and-groove machining, to which a line of PVA D3/D4 glue is applied to hold them together and to avoid water leaks into their structure.

Furniture has been custom made with standard NATURPANEL-W panels, the same material as used in walls, which has been cut to size to allow the installation of electrical and water sources.

A glass curtain separates the WC space from the shower. The shower stall is continuous with the same Country Oak finish, although here the material used is the NATURHARDPANEL-W board, the PARKLEX PRODEMA covering for areas frequently in contact with water which is built on an HPL core that makes it watertight.

The shower stall’s lower corner has been resolved with a superimposed edge system, applying a sealant from above to below the panel to prevent water entry. Installing the panels on laths provides for good water draining and air circulation. These two qualities guarantee hygiene and a long material life.

About PARKLEX PRODEMA

PARKLEX PRODEMA is the merger of two international brands, specialized in coverings for architecture. For decades, they were competitors in the architecture, interior design, and construction industry. The union between these two brands is our new future, because we believe that union, today (on this new international stage), is the best formula to keep growing and innovating.

Premium bathroom retailer, C.P. Hart, works with architects, interior designers, and developers on a diverse range of residential and commercial projects, including new builds with distinctly modern aesthetics and high-end hotels inspired by classic British style.

C.P. Hart recently designed and supplied the luxury bathroom of Victoria Rise, an early Victorian property located in South London. Discover the inspiration, design, and featured products below.

The primary bathroom of Victoria Rise was once a small space comprising of a bath, with no shower, and a WC tucked tightly into the corner. C.P. Hart maximised the area by moving the entrance door, allowing the layout to be reimagined while creating room for a large walk-in shower. The new shower, enclosed with a Drench crittall-style matt black frame, features a Gessi shower system from the Tondo 300 range – a customisable private wellness collection that offers a spa-like experience.

“The client brought us an image of an eye-catching black and white hexagonal tile,” the C.P. Hart design team recall. “It sparked the idea for a bold monochrome scheme, which would also make the most of the original black cast iron fireplace.”

C.P. Hart’s exclusive Elter freestanding bath is complemented with a chrome bath and shower mixer from Italian maker, Gessi, coordinating with the basin mixers from the brand’s Eleganza collection. The C.P. Hart team designed the made-to-order double vanity basin unit to conceal pipework and incorporate the client’s desire for a marble top.

C.P. Hart transformed the limited space into a light and open bathroom that promotes wellness and relaxation, with a design that’s bold yet elegant, with a modern, linear style. “I wanted the client to be able to lie back and look out at the garden and sky,” the team explain, placing the freestanding bath adjacent to the statement floor to ceiling windows.

What are the origins of your brand?

GRAFF’s founder and CEO, Ziggy Kulig, who is a highly skilled engineer, moved to the U.S. from Europe in the 1970s. With a passion for design innovation and an emphasis on high quality materials and precision, Ziggy had recognised the origin of the hand crafting and specialised artistic manufacturing and in 1990 he acquired the factory where GRAFF has been produced ever since. These values continue to underpin the GRAFF ART of Bath philosophy.

The factory is in Central Europe and it was founded in 1922. In 2002, GRAFF’s first design collection, Targa, debuted. Collections that followed, such as Luna, Ametis, Harley, and Vintage, along with the many architectural and design awards they have won represent GRAFF’s ability to continually raise the design bar.

How do you work with interior designers?

We are honoured to work closely with extremely talented interior designers on a range of luxury projects around the world, from concept to finish. We organise samples necessary for client meetings, alternative finishes for the mood boards, finalising detailed specifications with a technical pack to serve further down the line towards project build and completion. We value our relationships with the interior designers, as well as their creativity, skill, and insights, our collaboration carries on from product customisation to creating bespoke bath spaces for clients in private residences, hotels, resorts, yachts, and private planes.

GRAFF is offering lunch and learn sessions for all interior design studios that are keen to find out about our products and the ways we can support them with their work. We encourage both existing and new practices to take this unique opportunity and reach out whenever our assistance is required.

Interior designers are drawn to GRAFF’s award-winning products, created by top designers in the industry. They include the renowned Swiss designer, Davide Oppizzi, who created the Ametis Collection, while the celebrated Milan-based duo of Matteo Nespoli and Alberto Novara designed the Dressage Collection. GRAFF’s own innovative G+ Design Studio designed the MOD+ Collection.

What value does your sector add to the interior design industry?

Design excellence in the luxury bathroom brassware sector is key to adding value to the interior design industry. Through design excellence and innovation, GRAFF transforms the bath space beyond the quotidian, enhancing the physical, emotional, and aesthetic experience. We have 23 complete collections starting from the hand-crafted basin mixers, showers, and bath mixers to delicately designed accessories to match each range. At GRAFF every product is carefully produced from casting to hand polishing and elegant finishes.

We are a truly vertically integrated company, with 100% in-house production, assuring meticulous quality control and always conscious with regards to sustainability and green values.

How do your services/offering enhance an interior designer’s projects?

At GRAFF, we design for timeless appeal, and for harmony with a broad range of interior and architectural styles. Our collections represent 3 design trends: contemporary, traditional as well as transitional. Interior designers can enhance their projects with our 20 finishes such as bronze, brass, 24K gold, architectural black, satin nickel, etc. Our new Vignola Collection, for instance, gives interior designers options for different combinations of handles, including a choice of three different Tuscan marble handle inserts. Our shower systems offer state-of-the-art technology, such as chromotherapy, hydrotherapy, and music therapy, adding a spa-like dimension to the bath space.

What are the latest trends you’ve noticed in your client’s requests?

The trends we’re seeing focus on wellness, luxury, sustainability, and personalisation/customization. For instance, luxury multi-function showerheads geared to wellness are popular, such as those we offer with a variety of spray patterns and massage intensities. Technology drives current trends in exciting ways that make the bathing experience more spa-like.

Our digital controls for showers enhance the sense of ease and luxury, and LED lights conveniently indicate water temperature changes by changing colours. Our thermostatic shower systems control the water temperature, for the ultimate in comfort. The advanced technology of our Aqua-Sense and Ametis shower systems allows consumers to luxuriously immerse themselves in chromotherapy and sound.

Personalisation is one of the biggest aesthetic trends, and our collections offer boundless choices to meet that demand. Our designs complement and elevate bath spaces whether in historic mansions, seaside villas, country homes, or contemporary penthouses.

While the preference for wall mounted basin mixers continues, our collections offer the deck mounted versions as well, especially in the more classical styles such as Camden or Topaz Collections.

Sustainability is another important aspect and one on which GRAFF has long been ahead. GRAFF products have automatically included a water-saving device since 2012. We are ISO 14001 certified, meaning our products are designed to preserve energy and resources and lessen the impact on the environment. In our manufacturing, we have implemented zero-waste policies and adhere to strict international conservation, health, and safety standards. We also work with partners committed to such environmental and ethical practices, creating sustainable luxury bathroom products.

From the unprecedented collaboration of Patrick Norguet with RAK Ceramics comes a stunning bathroom project: RAK-Valet. It is the embodiment of a unique talent for understanding a need and creating a functional, long-lasting solution that fits in perfectly with the context. A cluster of visions, drawings, exclusive shapes and a fast-paced rhythm leading to unexpected solutions: this is what the French designer brings to each of his new creations.

RAK-Valet expresses the creative genius of Norguet together with the undivided attention devoted by RAK Ceramics to production quality and project completeness. A special project, attesting a new concept of living and a new way to use domestic space, which becomes free of constraints, permeable, osmotic, and innovative. Whether it be contemporary or traditional.

Norguet puts on stage a dialogue between light and shadow, between volumes and lines, between elements, forms and materials. A delicate balance that is never disrupted, as each element becomes functional to the user in this ongoing, harmonious exchange. Everything is in the service of the person who experiences the space, everything centres around the dialogue, bearing witness to something magical and unique.

The RAK-Valet collection is composed of functional elements – available in matt and glossy finishes – that serve as veritable valets and hand us the objects of our daily wellbeing via functional surfaces and stylistic solutions of great visual impact: decorative forms with slender profiles for the washbasins, top-notch stylistic research for the bathtubs, and elongated lines for the toilet bowls.

RAK-Valet is a project that comes to meet a need in interior design, leaving out any unnecessary shape or detail while the expression of the real is reduced to its pure, bare form.

RAK-Valet goes well with some of the most successful collections proposed by RAK Ceramics, such as their brand-new bathroom fittings and RAK-Joy Uno mirrors. It is rounded off by a rich choice of accessories, such as legs and towel holders made of metal, or the practical but extremely elegant ceramic surfaces also designed by Patrick Norguet.
