Alexander Joseph product feature for SBID interior design blog

Introducing Alexander Joseph’s range of Luxury Cordless Lamps

Alexander Joseph have just launched the world’s first luxury cordless lamps. The decision to create the range of lamps came following a fruitless search by the founder, Mark Robinson. He explains, “around a year ago my wife and I looked for decorative cordless lamps, all we could find were entry level or novelty varieties with very limited endurance. I spoke to several interiors’ organisations, lighting companies and retailers, then decided there was a place in the market for Luxury Cordless Lamps”. The patent pending technology used to power lamps provides at least 50 hours of continuous use before the need for recharging. Put another way, 3-4 weeks of normal use. Hidden in a sealed base, the technology is discrete and robust. The company have designed their own LED bulb, preferring to house the drivers in the base rather than within the bulb itself. This allows Alexander Joseph to provide a consistent soft light equivalent to a traditional 60w bulb. The idea has always been to hide the technology so lamps look as decorative as other luxury brands, but without the cord and plug.

The eye is not only a gate to inner realms and spaces of higher consciousness, but also enlightenment and mindfulness among many. Through its magnified and in-your-face quality, the piece emphasises and deliberates these connotations. By enticing both the visual and emotional, this mirror will easily become the focal point of any luxury interior.

GROHE product feature for interior design blog

Unveiled with an immersive installation at Milan Design Week 2018, GROHE launched the Atrio Collection

Launched with 35 taps which form the Atrio Collection and sharing one unified look of elegance and precision, Atrio is symbolic of a new era of design that challenges conventions in order to create something truly iconic. The fundamental, consistent design is inspired by GROHE’s original best-selling ATRIO collection incepted more than 10 years ago. Atrio’s sleek, cylindrical design  gives a timeless elegance, enhanced by a form that measures the same diameter from the base to the top. This design feat is replicated across all taps within the collection. This is a first for  tap design which required technical experts to achieve new levels of engineering perfection, to ensure both form and function worked in harmony. The spout itself curves in the perfect arc of a semi-circle.

From the bold cross handles with subtle ‘H’ and ‘C’ markings, to the slim cylindrical shape made possible by GROHE’s super-slim cartridge technology, the considered details add up to an object with a reassuring air of design permanence. The Atrio collection delivers versatility in its design, with a number of different sizes and configurations for bathroom basins, baths and showers. Actiu products feature for SBID interior design blog

BADMINTON, iconic soft seating that enables both conversation and privacy

Intended as an iconic element within the office, this armchair designed by ITEM Designworks aims to be the differentiating factor in work spaces. Thanks to its dynamic and open conception, it enables conversation, reading and the use of electronic devices without falling into a relaxed state which impedes your concentration. To maintain the active attitude, we have removed its arms and set at 180 degrees which favours privacy for the user due to its high degree of sound proofing. Badminton invites you to sit, change space and position, leave the independent work desks. “It is a kind of throne that impresses you with its size and shape. The aim is to feel well and comfortable, but always with an active attitude”, explains Javier Cuñado, director of ITEM Designworks. A piece that responds to the changing needs of work spaces, more friendly, illuminated, ventilated and one that promotes communication and work together.

With two types of different bases (in saltire and the other peana with a 70 cm diameter) which enable a 360 degree turn and two different height models (armchair and seat), Badminton was a new challenge for Actiu. In its manufacture it employed new injection techniques and materials never before used in its factories. In short, it is a safe product which will not leave anybody indifferent and where the creation, inspiration and design feel with you.

Caesarstone collaboration with designjunction for interior design events

Curated by design consultancy and procurement specialists BY FORM, the pop-up restaurant serves as a backdrop for exciting interior pieces that are yet to be showcased in the UK. STILL is influenced by simple Danish design and organic Japanese aesthetics, showcasing a selection of hand-picked collaborations with brands and designers. The pop-up restaurant installation features a refined collection of design across lighting, textiles, surfaces and furniture, and new materials, including brands like Anour, &tradition, KABE Copenhagen, Zilenzio and Atkinson & Kirby. The menu will be provided by 26 Grains, from Neil’s Yard London.

STILL utilises Caesarstone‘s newly launched Topus Concrete surface design for the restaurant’s main bar. Developed as part of the Caesarstone design team’s wider exploration of industrial finishes and weathered patinas, Topus Concrete’s gentle linier pattern is reminiscent of Jupiter’s rotating cloud bands, while its warm blush pink colours sit harmoniously within the calming palette used across STILL.

Head Above Water

This year, designjunction will not only be returning with an abundance of the latest design innovations, product launches and trends for the forthcoming year, but will be bringing with it an inspirational troop of thought-provoking outdoor installations on the Riverside Walkway. British designer Steuart Padwick will be among the few to make a dramatic addition to the London skyline during designjunction in support of mental health with his project, Head Above Water. With its panoramic views of St Paul Cathedral and the iconic city skyline, the 9 metre high sculpture on Queen’s Stone jetty is designed to initiate the vital discourse about a topic which is all too often swept under the carpet.

The ‘Head’ is deliberately gender, ethnicity and age neutral and stands as a symbol of hope, bravery, compassion, positivity and change for those who have or are still confronting mental health issues. Steuart Padwick first sculpted a head in clay and then developed the concept into its current form using precision engineered, renewable and sustainable cross-laminated timber panels, provided by Stora Enso. To realise the structure Steuart Padwick worked with structural engineering expertise, Ramboll. It is a model of sustainable, smart design and build.

KI Take5 seating collection preview for interior design products update

KI launches new Take5 lounge seating collection

Designed by Jonathan Hindle FCSD, KI’s new Take5 lounge seating collection is inspired by mid-century styling and designed for today’s workspaces. The collection’s single, two- and three-seater sofas with low or high backs are complemented by ottomans, coffee tables and side tables. Take5’s pillowed shapes and curved armrests are evocative of a teddy bear, instantly inviting the user to feel comfortable and relaxed. The space beneath the armrests also acts as legroom, allowing the user to pivot to the side. The flat top of the armrests double as both a secondary seating surface and a worktop for notebooks or laptops. Each sofa can be fitted with power and USB modules. Matching or contrasting upholstered high backs can be added to reduce distractions, increase a sense of privacy and for noise reduction. These elegant products help to create a more domestic atmosphere in the corporate workspace.

Coinciding with the launch of Take5, KI have teamed up with leading textiles designer, Natasha Marshall, as well as Bute Fabrics, to create exclusive print fabrics to further enhance the collection’s domestic appeal. Two new designs, ‘Vista’ and ‘Pompom’ have been produced in exclusive colourways especially for Take5. Custom colours can also be produced to match a specific project. Jonathan Hindle comments:

“Workplaces are increasingly taking cues from hospitality and domestic environments to create altogether more inviting, comfortable spaces. Untethered from our desks, we now seek spaces that support casual collaboration, or give us an opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of a busy office space. Take5 was created to allow workers to find an appropriate work setting for either individual or group tasks, or to simply take ‘5 minutes’ away from work and regenerate.”

Prepare for an Unexpected Rendez-Vous with MAISON&OBJET Paris!

Maison&Objet tradeshow image for SBID interior design events blog post

MAISON&OBJET Paris (M&O) opens its doors this month with a new layout, new areas, new purchasing experience and even more design inspiration! From 7th – 11th September 2018 design professionals from across the globe will be descending upon Paris to see the best in creative excellence and innovation. The new layout focuses on inspiring designers with two main hubs and 11 different sectors.

Since 1995, M&O has been the world’s foremost event for professionals of the lifestyle, interior, and design industries. Every edition brings together some 3,000 brands and more than 90,000 unique visitors – of which 50% hail from outside France. Promoting new contacts and emerging talents, M&O presents twice a year the latest sources of inspiration by shedding insight into current and future industry trends. As a result, the event has become an effective catalyst for brand development and business growth – and SBID are delighted to offer SBID members complimentary tickets!

Maison&Objet tradeshow image for SBID interior design events blog post

Maison&Objet tradeshow map for SBID interior design events blog postFundamentally a multi-sector and cross-industry event, M&O provides a snapshot of the market twice a year in Paris. The broad, yet curated offering shown gives the fair a unique edge. This is why a pertinent structuring is strategic to attract brands and buyers, and keep them engaged. This year, M&O has taken on a new challenge: a complete overhaul of its structure. The new layout is the reflection of the organisers’ wish to go back to basics: Maison and Objet. Philippe Brocart, Managing Director of SAFI (the company that organises M&O) comments on this new approach:

“Since its inception, the fair has always seen two categories of visitors, each with very different expectations for their visits: retailers and specifiers. The definition of the new sectors was guided by practical criteria chosen to clarify the offering and make it more accessible for both visitor categories.

On the one hand, retail buyers appreciate the great variety of products on display, but need a clear divide by product typology and price range to save time. On the other, specifiers tend to look for specific solutions for their projects, with a more style-oriented approach. With this in mind, the structure of the offering was entirely revamped to provide greater efficiency, especially important as professionals have grown accustomed to having easy access to whatever information they need since the development of online tools.”

Maison: new sections by style!

Interior design styles are just as diverse as fashion trends. The challenge for specifiers is scouting new ideas, finding new inspirations. For them, M&O have created a new Maison Hub, making precise and inspiring changes to achieve just the right balance. Four realms have been defined geographically and temporally: Unique & Eclectic, Today, Forever and Craft.

Objet: seven distinct families!

Highly regarded by French and international buyers – whether for novelty shops, concept stores, department stores, or online shops. Always in pursuit of accessories, ornaments and all sorts of decorative objects, these visitors organise their visit by product typology. The new Objet Hub has been expanded into include seven sectors: Cook&Share, Smart Gift, Fashion Accessories, Kids&Family, Home Accessories, Home Fragrance and Home Linen.
