Prodema was founded in San Sebastián in 1903, as an industrial carpentry shop under the name of Echevarria y Eléicegui, SRC. Specialized in the manufacture of wood and hardware, it experienced a progressive expansion that led it over the years to diversify its activity and move its facilities to Legorreta. More than 50 years after his birth, he changed his name to Prodema.
At the end of the 1980s, the first facades covered by Prodema were built, which caused a very good impression and made various architects begin to be interested in the product. Expo’92 marked a before and after for the brand, to the point of turning around the company’s business by concentrating exclusively on the world of architecture.
For its part, Vera de Bidasoa was the birthplace of Maderas Gurea S.A, founded in 1966, which became Composites Gurea S.A. in 1985. At that time, high-density phenolic stratified wood products were manufactured, aimed at the Spanish iron and steel and electromechanical industries. In 1992, the company began working on the application of wood for construction, thus creating the Parklex brand.
In 2004, the first step in the integration of the brands was executed. The MADME holding company was created, owner of both the Parklex and Prodema brands. In this first phase, all areas of the company were integrated, except for the commercial area, where the two brands competed in different markets. In 2018, the first step was taken in the integration of the commercial networks, unifying the management of the two brands, but without changes regarding the market, for which two different brands continued to follow.
2022 is the year of change, renewal, collaboration and growth. It is the year of the merger of the Parklex and Prodema brands at all levels, becoming a single brand both inside and outside.
The union between the two will mark our new future, because we believe that the union is, today – in this new international context -, the best formula to continue growing and innovating.
From now on, PARKLEX PRODEMA becomes a much stronger and more consistent project.
We work with interior designers from the design phase of the project. We help them to know the wood from the hand of an expert, we help them in the search for personalized solutions and we offer technical support for the specification.
Once the project is designed, we enter in the development phase with them. We offer a shop drawings service, we help with the optimization of the material and we look for tailor-made technical solutions for their specific project.
And, if the designer or the company that is going to carry out the work needs us, we can enter in the execution phase of the project. We have logistical flexibility so that the reception of the materials is the most comfortable and appropriate to their needs, as well as being able to customize each delivery. We offer an on-site start-up service and we can provide training on the installation of all our products.
In addition to the support we offer in each of the phases of a project, we have a worldwide commercial network, which allows us to provide an international service. Our sales representatives or technicians can carry out personalized visits, resolve any doubts that may arise, show reference projects… In addition to the fact that we have digital support materials available on our website, and physical samples to see and touch each one of our products and finishes.
We adapt to the individual needs of each designer.
Thanks to our own technology, we have developed a range of interior and exterior products with natural wood that has a unique strength and durability. We give them the possibility of applying the beauty and warmth of wood in different applications, such as walls, floors, ceilings, acoustics, furniture, facades… In all those areas where they thought they would not be able to place wood, we give them that option.
In addition to everything already mentioned, we are offering a unique product with an international and personalized service. We give the possibility of using wood, with its aesthetic benefits, where it is not usually an option.
We offer a combined solution. Personalized, with international service and with a unique delivery, of a product with unique benefits for wood.
In addition to being able to use our products in high-traffic areas, such as museums, restaurants, retail, hotels, offices… their features make them suitable for hospitals, swimming pools, spas, gyms, bathrooms and kitchens…
Wood is increasingly sought as part of the decoration, along with other materials such as cement or stone, and not only as part of the building’s envelope.
In addition, it seeks to give life to the spaces through more colorful materials, such as painted wood.
Our customers increasingly ask us for our products for applications in extremely humid areas, such as bathrooms, showers, kitchens… The application of wood can be carried out in continuity throughout all the rooms of the house, creating homogeneous and aesthetically highly worked spaces. This continuity can also be applied from the inside of the house to the outside, with the soffits, the outdoor floors…

The UK’s market leader in luxury vinyl flooring Karndean Designflooring is on a mission to change the way people think about flooring with its new Clerkenwell showroom.
Situated at 20 Clerkenwell Green, in the heart of London’s vibrant design district, the new studio is designed to inspire the design community and highlight the endless possibilities of flooring design. The showroom features a beautiful selection of bespoke floors that demonstrate how Karndean flooring can meet both aesthetic requirements and demanding technical specifications, whilst also protecting a listed period building.
Inspired by a concept of ‘random chaos’ to instill a sense of happiness and optimism, the showroom features abstract designs that highlight the outstanding versatility of luxury vinyl flooring. Architects and designers will be able to discover imaginative floors that push the boundaries of style whilst effectively protecting and enhancing the building’s original features.
Fleur Carson, commercial sales director at Karndean Designflooring, said: “As a brand we have been expanding steadily and continue to make our mark on the commercial interiors industry, so this investment is the obvious next step for us. Having a permanent showroom in Clerkenwell will make us more accessible to those working at the cutting edge of design and will enable us to show how an extremely modern floor can fit into a historic setting.
“We have designed the showroom to exemplify both the potential of our products and how expressive design can be used to influence mood. Using both off the shelf examples and a bespoke design, we offer a selection of original floor designs that will raise a smile, support wellbeing and connect us to the natural world.”
To support its ongoing mission to create inspiring places to work, meet or play, the showroom presents creative floor designs that respect the building’s legacy whilst securing the original floor underneath. On the ground level, visitors can experience how a complementary combination of designs from our Heritage Collection and bespoke cuts can be used to demarcate activity zones and guide users through the space. By using a rigid core format in the basement, the design ensures that the existing floor is completely protected.
On the first floor, a floating sub-floor safeguards the floorboards so that a unique abstract design can be laid, illustrating the full potential of Karndean flooring. Here, designers can learn how design components and bespoke elements in interesting patterns and colour combinations can be used to create truly innovative designs that reflect individuality and enrich the user experience.
The new showroom will be open by appointment. Visitors will be able to explore the flexibility of Karndean flooring, meet with dedicated commercial specification managers and attend events and continuing professional development seminars (CPDs).

About Karndean Designflooring
Our design process begins with a meeting…with nature. We see flooring differently. Pushing the boundaries has to be an adventure of discovery. It’s why we travel the world for inspiration. From the ancient European woodlands to the Australian outback, we pack our bags and go there. Every time, we connect with something extraordinary that shapes our every step. It’s how we bring the unimaginable, inspired from the outdoors, indoors.
When it comes to choosing a durable, hardwearing, easy-clean, low-maintenance flooring solution for a large family home, Dekton® is the ideal solution. For Michael Stephenson and the team at HG Design Solutions, who were tasked with designing the interior of this large Northumberland family home, Dekton® Soke 8mm x 1420mm x 1420mm floor tiles were the perfect choice for the entire downstairs layout, including the open-plan kitchen-living area, dining room, utility and grand entrance hall.
Created in collaboration with Shaun Ramsey Construction, the project involved applying Dekton® Soke flooring throughout the downstairs of the property and out into the garden area, creating a seamless finish and flow throughout the entire house and garden. Part of the Dekton® Industrial Collection, the Soke tiles are inspired by classic cement floors with realistic veining and a statement grey finish that beautifully complements the traditional style of this home’s interior décor.
Highly resistant to UV rays, scratches, stains and thermal shock, Dekton® is the ideal choice for homeowners looking for a durable, hardwearing solution for floors, worksurfaces and wall cladding both indoors and out. What’s more, carbon neutrality has been achieved for the entire life cycle of Dekton, so homeowners can rest assured that their surface of choice is sustainable and helps build a better future.
Dekton® was also selected for the kitchen worksurfaces as well as for the table in the dining area that flows effortlessly from the open-plan kitchen-living space. Dekton® in Olimpo was specified from PWS Worksurfaces and as part of the Stonika Xgloss Collection, it offers a luxurious Carrara marble look and feel with grey veining on top of a cool white background.
Michael Stephenson, Director and Founder of HG Design Solutions, explains the process behind the design, “We introduced the client to Dekton and it was after he and his wife came to the Darlington centre to view the materials that they agreed on Soke for the flooring and Olimpo for the worksurfaces and table top, as these were the perfect choice in terms of durability and style.”
The marble look of the Dekton® worksurfaces create wonderful contrast against the burnt orange banquette seating and wall colour within the dining area, which provide a pop of colour and add further personality to the design. It also looks stunning in the utility room with its rich, dark navy painted timber cabinetry and white wall units for a nautical look.
Dekton® by Cosentino is available in a range of designs, from industrial inspired to marble look.

The UK’s market leader in luxury vinyl flooring Karndean Designflooring is expanding its popular Knight Tile range with a collection of contemporary wood and stone designs, including herringbone and a unique chevron effect.
Expanding its range of mid and light toned wood and stone designs, the new Knight Tile collection has been designed to complement the latest colour trends, from monochrome and neutrals to bold, bright palettes. Whether using a single design for a barely there streamlined look or combining full sized and herringbone planks for a bespoke style, the subtle features of these designs will bring a classical elegance to any interior.
From the cool greys of Ivory Riven Slate and Smoked Concrete to the neutral tones of Lime Washed Oak and the reclaimed rustic charm of Washed Character Oak, this stunning new collection is expected to find favour in a range of sectors.
Designers working on co-living developments such as new build, housebuild and student accommodation will appreciate the option to choose a single design in a combination of gluedown and rigid core formats to create a clean sophisticated look throughout the home, including the ability to introduce an on-trend chevron pattern.
With realistic features and textures of natural materials but also a practical hygienic surface and good slip resistance, the collection offers a streamlined yet traditional look that will suit retirement and supported living accommodation. For areas where a visual differentiation is required, designers will find ample possibilities for interesting tonal combinations as well as laying pattern options.
In commercial spaces such as hospitality, boutique hotels and offices, this collection offers the flexibility to express a brand’s personality and allows plenty of scope for creative zoning. The wide choice of designs in a rigid core option, including herringbone, will allow highly individualised designs to be created with minimum disruption.
The new Knight Tile range presents 10 new wood and 12 new stone designs, with options available in gluedown and rigid core formats, and six herringbone (18” x 3”) designs. In addition, the collection introduces a rigid core format to 10 popular existing designs.
Designers looking to create distinctive and playful floors will appreciate the introduction of a chevron design in a choice of three colourways; Lime Washed Oak, Grey Washed Oak and Rose Washed Oak. Reproducing an iconic chevron pattern in a convenient larger sized plank (48″ x 9″) with a smooth emboss, this is the perfect choice for projects where installation time is key. Designers can choose from a gluedown format or rigid core to suit uneven subfloor conditions or where sound transmission is a consideration.
Fleur Carson, commercial sales director at Karndean Designflooring, said: “This new collection has been a journey of discovery. Designed to not only meet but exceed aesthetic and technical expectations, we are proud to present this adaptable range of wood and stone designs in our widest choice of formats, available at an accessible price point. Our popular Rose Washed Oak design, for example, is now available in five format and plank size options including our new chevron effect.
“Our latest designs have been influenced by our recent experiences and aim to support wellbeing and a sense of belonging with a natural look that connect our interiors to the outside environment. While intended to offer a stylish palette of pale greys and taupes that will act as a subtle background to the latest interior trends and bold colour choices, this collection doesn’t skimp on character or authentic details.”
Like all Karndean floors, the new collection has been handcrafted for an authentic look and produced with cutting-edge technology for a beautiful yet practical floor that will facilitate cleaning and maintenance, reduce noise disturbance and protect indoor air quality.

Introducing the Passage collection, celebrating the joy of seasons and the passing of time. Passage is a series of hand-tufted rug designs made in collaboration with architect and interior designer Brooke Aitken, Founder of Brooke Aitken Design. Inspired by a vivid dream about the passage of time, Brooke worked closely with TSAR Carpets to translate her vision and evocative sketches into six rug patterns – Day, Night, Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn.
The ebb and flow of time and the continual changing and passing of the seasons is reflected in the collections’ patterns and graphic lines, which inform a sense of movement and placemaking. The collection’s contemplative designs are enhanced by using rich colours, such as midnight blue and russet dawn red, further reflecting how natural light changes from day to night, season to season. Each pattern is available in two different colour options.
The collection will be sold exclusively at TSAR’s studios in Melbourne, Sydney, New York, London, and Shanghai.

Our ethos and style of the brand at Riviera is all about function, suitability, sustainability, inspiration, fashion, and exclusivity. Our carpets and rugs are textured using plain, natural colour shades to easily fit in with today’s residential environment. The styling of Riviera Home’s carpets works beautifully with many on-trend colours and interior schemes. We want to be different from the mainstream and this is one of the main reasons we work so successfully with interior designers, offering their clients something which is unique to them.
Riviera Home began as a family-run business, with the first generation of the Singla family selling cotton fabrics from their own shop in India’s historic city of Panipat. In 1984 the third generation of the Singla family members ventured into the export of handcrafted products and earned the Gold Medal award from the Handloom Export Promotion Council. The UK office opened in 2013 and we are proud to be running our UK sales and stock operation from the home of carpets in Kidderminster, Worcestershire.
The origins of the brand are embedded in design for functionality with style. At Riviera Home, we spend a great deal of time working on textured carpets in different effects, styles, options to offer something different and exciting to an interior design project.
We use soft, subtle, and natural colour shades which work fantastically well as a foundation base for a new interior design scheme along with the security of high-quality manufacturing in both handmade and machine techniques.
Relationships and developing strong trading partnerships are very important to Riviera Home, working very closely with interior designers who we encourage to work with our national network of professional flooring retailers (authorised dealerships), all of whom are highly skilled and experienced in floorcoverings and who can support them with handling and fitting of our carpets. This relationship is supported by our national network of sales professionals and our dedicated team working Riviera Home’s Head office.
We work with designers by utilising a professional display sample box which has a backup sample postage service. We also have a nationwide sales team which can connect, meet, discuss, and help where needed to maintain a constant dialogue and ensure we meet evolving project needs and requirements.
At Riviera Home, we can convert all our ranges into bespoke rugs available in the size of your choice. Utilising your choice of tape, finish, texture, colour, style, whether you’re utilising a wide border to compliment or contrast or discreet blind stitching for a unique finish. This service is hand-finished and offers endless options and flexibility. We provide the highest quality products and manufacturing processes, combined with knowledgeable sales staff.
Examples of recent installations are proudly posted on our Riviera Home Instagram page (rivierahomelondon), and we really value the support from all our partners. There is a consistent social media output to help further connect, present, and represent new design ideas and styles available.
Our products and services add huge value to an interior designer’s project by utilising carpet floor coverings and unique design solutions which are design-led, soft, hard wearing, and fashionable along with the greater exclusivity offered by the brand.
There are also a number of completely eco carpet ranges which utilise renewable materials and sustainable manufacturing techniques to create carpets which are biodegradable. We see the use of sustainable manufacturing increasing in the future as we all become more responsible towards our planet.
We see the latest trends heading towards a more natural style and look with renewable materials such as wool continuing to be important for warmth, wear, softness, and security.
We also see a return to some of the softer colours coming through in natural cream and champagne colour shades, along with some stronger sand shades to work with bronze and brass tones are becoming fashionable.

In this week’s interview with 2021 SBID Awards winners of the Flooring & Floor Coverings category, IVC Commercial, the designer shares details about the winning project, discuss the company’s journey to becoming zero impact by 2040 and sheds light on the key considerations for specifying floors for different environments – commercial and residential.
SBID Awards Category: Flooring & Floor Coverings
Practice: IVC Commercial
Entry: Studio Moods
We invest heavily in design and product development and pride ourselves on creating high performance flooring for commercial interiors. Entering awards are a key part of communicating our story of innovation to the design community. SBID’s stature makes the awards a must. To be recognised gives the entire company a lift and supports conversations around new technologies to a wider audience. In short, it is testament that the solutions we produce are recognised as among the best in the industry.
Studio Moods gives designers the flexibility to achieve a truly bespoke floor, which I believe is its strongest asset. The floor is available in a variety of geometric, tessellating shapes and various wood, stone and colour effects. By choosing a personalised combination from these building blocks, designers can create a unique and exclusive design. Ultimately, Studio Moods makes bespoke flooring more accessible. The floor’s performance and recycled content also add to the many benefits of this collection.
Our Journey to 2040 is a road map to reducing our footprint with the ambition to become zero impact. It influences the actions we take not only in development and design but also in manufacturing, installation and end of life. This manifests itself in many ways: the recycled content of products and research into materials that are easier to recycle, more efficient manufacturing, loose lay installation and post-use recovery and recycling.
At IVC Commercial we specialise in flooring for commercial environments, but we are part of IVC Group – with residential brands including Moduleo and Leoline. Key is the ability of flooring to respond to the challenges of the project in question. Broadly, providing durability and remaining easy to maintain are two of the priorities. Specifically, it can be acoustics – particularly important in a growing number of environments – comfort and the ability of the floor to respond to design intentions. In the majority of the projects, it is a combination of this factors that determine the suitability of the floor for the space in question.
Based in Belgium, our research and development team is always busy working on new designs and innovations and we’ve already launched some fantastic new products to the market since we won the award for Studio Moods. Our new Imperfection carpet tile collection – inspired by the Japanese world view of wabi-sabi – is our first to be made from ECONYL®, a yarn that’s made from nylon waste including old fishing nets. It also features a 94% recycled content acoustic backing, so it’s a carpet tile that performs well for the environment, looks fabulous and improves comfort – maybe it’s even another winner! Of course, there’s plenty of exciting developments in the pipeline too.
I’d encourage young designers to be solution and client oriented and to take inspiration from lots of different sources. As an example, for our own product design we look to fashion and global trends as key sources, so it’s best to be open minded. With solutions for specific challenges you may be encountering on projects, it’s always worth talking to your flooring supplier as your default flooring option might not always be the best one for the job in question. We’re always more than happy to talk flooring at any stage of the project and might even be able to suggest a better solution to meet your needs.

The evolution of Silestone® has inspired Ethereal, a collection of white canvas surfaces with intricate marble look patterns which recreate the natural beauty of the sky.
In addition to kitchen and bathroom applications as a worktop or splashback, Silestone® is also ideal for more ambitious interior design projects where interior cladding, furniture cladding and flooring is required. Ethereal is perfect for both commercial and residential projects where a modern yet timeless aesthetic is desired.
Silestone® Ethereal features HybriQ+® technology, meaning that in the production process 99% of reused water from the production processes is used, along with 100% renewable electric energy. What’s more, a minimum of 20% recycled raw materials are used in the material composition, alongside mineral raw materials, helping to provide an eco-friendly solution for luxury architectural or interior design projects.
Silestone® by Cosentino, the leading global hybrid mineral surface for the world of architecture and design, is excited to introduce its second collection worldwide under its new corporate image. The new Silestone® emblem and character has given rise to the Ethereal collection, which is supported with a major campaign featuring entrepreneur and international fashion icon, Cindy Crawford.
Ethereal by Silestone® represents a quantum leap in terms of design, innovation and sustainability, in line with the transition that Silestone® is undergoing externally and internally with the development of the cutting-edge HybriQ® and HybriQ+® technologies. This evolution of Silestone® has inspired Ethereal, a collection of white canvas surfaces with intricate marble look patterns which recreate the natural beauty of the sky, perfect for both commercial and residential projects where a modern yet timeless aesthetic is desired.
This marble-inspired collection consists of four colours, namely Ethereal Dusk, Ethereal Haze, Ethereal Glow, and Ethereal Noctis. Each colour showcases a deep, fine veining on a white foundation and thanks to HybriQ+® technology, they have been developed with at least 20% recycled raw materials, helping to provide an eco-friendly solution for luxury architectural or interior design projects.
Ethereal Glow is simply pure, classic elegance. Its golden and grey veining merges with a tinged white foundation, with veining running through the entire design to bring an accent of colour to every corner. Inspired by the sunset and its igneous colours and glow, it is an evolution of Silestone®’s internationally acclaimed and widely popular Eternal Calacatta Gold colour.
Ethereal Dusk showcases an urban look in which the bluish tone of its veining brings a modern and avant-garde touch to any space. It symbolises a unique, unforgettable and personal sunrise, with feelings of peace, solemnity and tranquility.
Ethereal Haze includes a dynamic range of grey tones to emit plenty of personality. It takes inspiration from the way the wind moves the clouds over the mountains, with the result both calm and characterful thanks to an interplay of gradients which blend into pure neutrality.
Ethereal Noctis is synonymous with sophistication. The tinged white foundation is broken up with short grey and black veins, providing contrast, depth, simplicity and modernity, inspired by the darkness after sunset.
Cosentino Group is a global, Spanish, family-owned company that produces and distributes high value innovative surfaces for the world of design and architecture. It works together with its clients and partners to provide with solutions that offer design and value, and inspire the life of many people. Silestone® is a hybrid surface made from premium natural minerals and recycled materials. Manufactured with the exclusive and innovative HybriQ® technology, a more sustainable approach to architectural surfaces.
